Forward to the Future

Posted: February 21, 2008, 3:56 pm

My name is Evan Hildreth. I also answer to “Odd Evan,” “madcrasher,” and “RadioShack.” I am a tech-head that is continually inspired by the power that the internet and the web gives to average, everyday people. And in one week I will no longer be a Furman student.

Let me say that one more time for [...]

Once again…

I’ll post more once I can figure out how to say it without saying who it’s involved with. Suffice it to say, who I am hates who I’ve been.

That’s what I’m TALKING about!

First it was Steve Jobs’ call to the labels. Then Amazon made the first serious iTunes competitor. Now Ian Rogers, head of Yahoo! Music, has told the labels to shove it. To their faces. This is the choice quote (emphasis mine):

If the licensing labels offer their content to Yahoo! put more barriers in front of [...]

I have more than two prablems.

I’m kinda in a state of shock right now. I found out earlier this week that I wasn’t on the list to move into my apartment early. This morning any hope I had was officially shot down with much gusto and fervor. Really, I’m just in shock right now. I don’t know who to blame, [...]

Slick Roads + Evan Driving = Not Fun

Posted: August 1, 2007, 11:04 pm

Sometimes God throws a curveball and it’s fun. Sometimes it’s not. I had a not-so-fun curveball this past weekend in the form of a car wreck.

Setup: I’m in Charleston for the weekend to catch up with friends and family. The incident in question is on Saturday.

Scenario: slick roads, wet Evan. The guy in front of [...]

Antagonistic

So… We nearly had — scratch that, we did have a serious interpersonal conflict in the Rat Pack. It’s the kind of issues that most people just shove under the rug until they get too big to hide and they explode in all manner of ill will and bad blood. Fortunately it never came to [...]

Wow.

Grace.

It’s a wonderful feeling, really. Getting what you don’t deserve. I guess that’s the lesson I had to learn. See, I was saved as a small child. There was never any one moment I can point to and say “There’s my epiphany; that’s where I first experienced Grace!” For me it’s been more of a [...]

Providence

As I mentioned in last night’s update, Dustin, my RUF minister here at Furman, was airlifted to the hospital yesterday evening. Apparently his bike locked up — tripped on a rock or something — and threw him headfirst onto the ground. Eventually they had to take him into surgery for brain swelling. As of right [...]

Virtual Business

Posted: October 25, 2006, 1:51 pm

Here’s a nice post about virtual business; this is a company that runs a lot of collaboration stuff, Ruby on Rails, and employs the founder of a pretty good weblog. I’m probably going to have to do this for root -1, even though most of the people involved will be around South Carolina. Thoughts?
